BloodRayne: Betrayal announced

2D side-scroller for PSN/XBLA.

Majesco's dormant BloodRayne franchise is back, with a new 2D side-scroller just announced for PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.

Due out this summer, the game sees Rayne reluctantly recruited by the vampire hunting Brimstone Society for one final mission. Apparently you'll team up with a mysterious new friend to stop "an evil vampire massacre".

The game is being developed by 2D specialists Wayforward Technologies – the same team behind the Wii A Boy & His Blob remake and recent DSiWare effort Shantae: Risky's Revenge.

There are no screens or gameplay footage yet, but a teaser site has gone live.

"It's been a long time since Rayne captivated players with her bold mix of brutality and beauty, and fans have been hounding us to release another BloodRayne installment," commented Majesco boss Jesse Sutton.

"We are excited to once again partner with the creative and committed team at WayForward to bring Rayne back. BloodRayne: Betrayal delivers the action-packed experience franchise fans have been waiting for in a digital format that's also accessible for new players unfamiliar with Rayne's over-the-top, stylized gameplay."

The last entry in the franchise, BloodRayne 2, launched on PC, PlayStation 2 and Xbox back in 2004, netting a modest 5/10 from Eurogamer's Matt Martin.
