Blimey there are a lot of sounds in God of War's dragon roar

What Odin.

When the huge Earth Dragon roars in God of War there are an incredible number of sounds hitting your ear. After all, we don't have a living dragon to simply capture the sound from, so developer Sony Santa Monica had to create it itself.

Where do you start? Senior sound designer Daniel Birczynski started with him, his voice, he said at Digital Dragons 2018 today, and then layered in animals, different metallic sounds, screeches and even what sounded like helicopters.

He revealed each layer in an audio clip which took two minutes to play through! And, he said, that was just a medium length roar.

God of War is no doubt be one of 2018's most memorable games. Birczynski said how pleased he was by the game's reception and said the world had clearly been ready for this type of game.
