Bethesda re-releasing The Elder Scrolls: Arena for tablets and phones?

Update: No, says Bethesda's Pete Hines, it was all "a mix-up".

Update: "There is no new version of [TES: Arena] coming out," Bethesda's mouthpiece Pete Hines clarified overnight. What we saw on the Australian Classifications Board website was a "mix-up".

"It apparently was never formally in their system because the release of Arena pre-dated [the Australian Classification Board's] existence," Pete Hines informed Joystiq.

"This is simply an error on [the classification board's] part. It should just say PC, not multiplatform. We've notified them and they're going to fix. There is no new version of the game coming. Just a clerical mix-up."

Original story: The Australian Classification Board rated, on 9th April, a multi-platform game called The Elder Scrolls: Arena (via games.on.net).

What is it? Arena is the first Elder Scrolls game, released in 1994.

What's it doing popping up now? No one knows for sure yet, but the most logical assumption is that Bethesda plans to re-release it. Not on PC, presumably, where you can download it for - officially - free already. Which leaves phones and tablets as the likely candidates.

Arena is a big old game - old being the operative word. I'm sure Bethesda could get the game working on touch-screen devices, but whether a touch-screen audience has the patience for it is another thing.

Bethesda, as expected, declined comment.
