Bethesda literally cannot produce any more Pip-Boys

Its manufacturer is too busy to make more.

Fallout 4's Pip-Boy accessory in its Collector's Edition has been such a sought after item, publisher Bethesda has admitted it simply cannot produce any more of them due to the manufacturer being too busy to make further stock.

The wearable Pip-Boy will no doubt fetch a pretty penny on eBay. The £100 retail price for the Collector's Edition will surely seem like a steal as time goes on.

Bethesda's Marketing VP Pete Hines revealed this tidbit to GameSpot at QuakeCon this weekend. "We reached a point where we'd go back to the factories and they were like, 'guys, this is it, sorry. This is as long as we can run the lines and as many of them as we can make.'"

According to Hines, the manufacturer was fairly flexible about altering its pipeline to make more Pip-Boys, but enough was enough and the company simply had to move on to other clients' work.

"We'd go back to [the factories] and say, 'Demand for this is insane, we've got to make more,'" Hines said. "And they'd move other projects off or shift stuff to other factories and it just came to [them telling Bethesda], 'Final answer: sorry, this is as many as we can make.'"

Hines clarified that every Pip-Boy Collector's Edition in existence (or currently in production) has been pre-ordered.

"We made a s**tload of Pip-Boys," Hines said, before noting that it was more than just a few thousand. "I think we did more of these things than we did for any collector's edition we've ever done."

This highly sought after accessory allows users to insert their smartphone into the giant watch-like device, then use the mobile app to interact with the game. In essence, it will bring the game's menus to your wrist rather than the TV screen. Think of it as an old fashioned stab at VR, which seems appropriately Fallout-y.
