After 17 years, then, this is it - the end of Hideo Kojima's run on Metal Gear Solid, and a rousing finale for the auteur's stint on one of the greatest series in gaming. And what a way to bow out: The Phantom Pain is a twisting, expansive adventure that blows apart the Metal Gear formula, spreading it out across a rich, generous open world.

Metal Gear Solid 5 S Ranks: How to boost mission scores, GMP bonuses, reduce penalties

Gain more S Ranks and making more GMP during missions.

For the vast majority of the missions in Metal Gear Solid 5, you'll receive a score rating which provides a rough overview of your overall performance. When you first attempt each mission, you'll probably score a bit on the low side, but repeat attempts should see you climbing the ranks quite quickly as you master each element of the job at hand

As you might have gathered by now, Hideo Kojima's fond of an 80s track or two, and there are plenty of these tunes to add to your collection as you play through Phantom Pain. In order to increase your repertoire of available tunes, you'll need to seek out the many music tapes sprinkled here and there. Unless you're turning the place upside down as you play though, you're likely to miss a few.

EGX 2017: Ten of the best games from the show floor

Eurogamer's highlights from a brilliant selection of indies and big-hitters.

We've been having a lovely old time here at EGX. Andy Serkis turned up, Doug Cockle came and did the Geralt voice for Bertie (whether he liked it or not), Chris Bratt had some very Chris Bratt conversations with X-COM and XCOM maestros Julian Gollop and Jake Solomon, and then as well as all that other stuff going on, there are the games.

Six perspectives on the Destiny 2 beta

Hardcore, lapsed, casual, sceptic, latecomer and noob.

The Destiny 2 beta is here to pretend to test netcode and gather feedback while actually delivering a marketing hard sell for Bungie's sci-fi shooter sequel into millions of homes. As such, it has quite a big and multifaceted job to do. Destiny gripped a very large community of hardcore players like few games do, but it turned just as many away with its charmless air, its garbled storytelling and its unrepentant grind. Activision and Bungie have many different constituencies to win over with this beta, from the nitpicking superfans, through the players that drifted away, to the players that bounced off it or never tried it in the first place.

Fable Fortune key giveaway!

Once more unto Albion.

Lionhead is no longer with us, but Albion lives on in Fable Fortune, a spin-off that began at Lionhead before the studio closed and now lives on at Flaming Fowl Studios, formed by a team of ex-Lionhead folks. A card game set in Albion and presented with the series' signature humour, it's launching in Early Access next week - but you can get it even earlier, as we've got 100 keys to give away.
