The gamer's guide to the Windows 10 launch

What the launch of Microsoft's new operating system means for gaming.

Just a few short years after its predecessor was released, Microsoft today launches Windows 10 onto the mass market. Rather than radically overhauling the Windows experience once again, this latest version of the world's most ubiquitous desktop operating system retains much of the UI functionality found in Windows 8, with many of the more interesting developments taking place under the hood.

It's 30 years to the day since Commodore unleashed the first in a long line of its Amiga machines onto the market, and while the initial Amiga 1000 made a fair technological splash of its own, it was the chronologically awkward Amiga 500 that was to cement the hardware maker's place in the annals of gaming history, shifting around six million units.

E3 2015 guide - all the conference times and announcements

UPDATE: All the biggest announcements in one place.

E3 is almost upon us once again, and now that the current-gen launch cobwebs have been blown away it's time to charge up the hype machine we all know and love. Microsoft and Sony will be offering up the more traditional E3 fare in the form of live presentations, while Nintendo once again opts for a more measured - yet no less tantalising - direct stream for its fans. There'll also be plenty of news coming out of the third party publisher events too.

The Just Cause series is defined by the purest kind of action-hero thrills: adventure, exploration and anarchy. In one sense the games provide a sprawling playground for almost pornographic free-form violence, yet in another, they're a celebration of technology and artistic ambition, providing sumptuous tropical worlds from which to drink deep. In their best moments, they are both at once.

Brutal Doom mod dials up the original game's gore

"Enemies are harder and smarter, and weapons and explosions are loud as f**k."

Do you have fond memories of playing Doom in the mid-90s, eviscerating everything in front of you while hoping your parents didn't look in and see what you were actually doing with the new 486?

Blizzard announces Timewalking feature for World of Warcraft

Conquer old dungeons at an increased difficulty for max-level loot.

Have you ever wanted to take in the sights and sounds of old Azeroth's dungeons at Level 100, but do so without pinging out-levelled bosses with a single hit? In a post on World of Warcraft's official website last night, Blizzard has revealed that you'll soon be able to do exactly that by using a new Timewalking feature.
