Atari UK keeps chin up

Unaffected by US turmoil.

Atari UK has said work on big titles like Alone in the Dark will continue despite a disastrous week for its US counterpart, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

Shares across the pond have continued to plummet in the last 24 hours, culminating in an hefty drop in value of 15 per cent - prompting declarations of an uncertain future.

But head of UK PR Lee Kirton was keen to stress those problems did not affect it here, citing pleasing sales for RPG The Witcher and promising us that development on Alone in the Dark was moving ahead as planned.

Inspired by fantasy novels written by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, action role-playing game The Witcher has shifted a not-to-be-sniffed-at 11,000 copies, remaining in the PC top four weeks since launch.

"We are pleased that the game has sold consistently, and feel that it has made good progress for a new IP and we continue to support and focus on the product brand," said Kirton.

"We have some very exciting titles being released today in My Horse and Me and Ace Combat 6: Fires of Liberation. Plus later there's Jenga and Legendary: The Box on Xbox 360, as well as some new titles to be announced soon."

Not to mention acclaimed games Test Drive Unlimited and Eternal Sonata from earlier in the year.

Alone in the Dark is due for release on PC, PS3, 360, Wii and PS2 next year, although a more specific date is yet to be announced.
