Woman "kills" virtual husband

Jailed in Japan over MapleStory murder.

The BBC reports that a Japanese woman has been arrested after "killing" her virtual husband in the free MMO MapleStory.

The 43-year-old piano teacher "was reportedly furious at finding herself suddenly divorced", according to the BBC. She illegally accessed the log-in details of the man playing her husband in the game, and deleted his character.

The woman is in jail in Sapporo, and could face charges of illegally accessing a computer and manipulating data. Her "husband" is a 33-year-old office worker.

The incident took place last May. The woman faces fines and a potential five-year jail sentence if convicted.

It's been quite a week for MMO crime. Earlier this week, a Dutch court convicted two teens of stealing virtual items in the game RuneScape.
