Wii records six million UK sales

Fastest-selling console in these realms.

Nintendo's Wii is the fastest-selling UK console of all time, having passed the six million mark on 28th November, Nintendo announced today.

The console launched in the UK on 8th December 2006, propelled onto shelves by a celebrity hit-squad consisting of footballer Ian Wright, boxer Ricky Hatton, model Nell McAndrew and Tennis player Pat Cash.

"With its inclusive, family-friendly and fun nature, we're very pleased Wii seems to have captured the imagination of over six million families across the UK and reached such a landmark sales figure in such a short space of time," said Nintendo UK boss David Yarnton.

"We'll work even harder to ensure that the interest in Wii stretches over months and years, appealing to people of all ages and gaming experience."
