Wii Internet Channel improved

New firmware out now.

Nintendo has begun rolling out improvements to the Wii Internet Channel so it now supports USB keyboards and lets you share links quickly with your friends.

It means you can obviously rattle off emails or post in comments sections (below) much faster than you could by waving your Wiimote at letters - although Nintendo has made this a little easier by adding various shortcuts like holding down "B" as a "Shift" button.

Sending links to your friends is much less hassle now, too. You can give them your favourite addresses in a jiffy or instantly pop over the URL of the page you are currently viewing. When your friend opens your message, they can quickly find the website in question.

There are also numerous other tweaks, like being able to copy things from web pages straight into the address box of your browser, as well as room for nine more favourite sites.

"We believe this new version of the Internet Channel is even more engaging and delightful for the users around the world than its predecessor," says Jon von Tetzchner, head boy at Opera. "Nintendo has always brought a new perspective, fresh ideas and unwavering enthusiasm to our partnership. And today, our combined efforts have given users more reasons to be excited."

Excited we are, too, not least because we can direct unsuspecting friends to all manner of destinations.
