Ubisoft doing Besson Minimoys games

For each of the two sequels.

Ubisoft has signed a worldwide licensing deal with Luc Besson's EuropaCorp to make and publish games based on upcoming sequels to Arthur and the Minimoys.

They won't be out for a while though, as they are planned to release in conjunction with Arthur and the Revenge of Maltazard in Christmas 2009 and Arthur and the Two Worlds War in Christmas 2010.

Arthur and the Minimoys, released in 2006, is a part-CG, part live-action film, in which a ten-year-old boy hunts down hidden treasure in the land of the Minimoys. We've seen the trailer on loop on someone else's chair-back screen on an aeroplane 48 times, and it looked like it might not be dreadful.

It's already been made into one game - Atari's Arthur and the Invisibles - which wasn't all that brilliant really, but this time things will be different! So says Luc Besson: "Ubisoft's award-winning creative teams are renowned for quality and innovation, and they have a fantastic track-record when it comes to applying these to license-based games," he said, presumably referring to stuff like Ubisoft's Michel Ancel's Peter Jackson's King Kong, which was definitely not boring the first time through.

"We are really excited at the perspective of collaborating with these artists, and all the creative possibilities we're going to discover. By working closely with the development team, Ubisoft is enabling us to help shape the kind of gaming experience that we will be proud to associate with the sequels to Arthur and the Minimoys."

Ubisoft said it too was chuffed. No platforms or game details have yet been discussed.
