Spiderwick game in Feb

Sierra doing honours.

Sierra Entertainment will be handling the game accompanying upcoming film The Spiderwick Chronicles.

Xbox 360, PS2, Wii and DS are the platforms targeted, and it should land on our retail laps next February " alongside the movie.

For those of you who don't know, The Spiderwick Chronicles are a series of illustrated books for children. The story takes place in New England, US, where a pair of nine year-old twins and their sister move into the run-down Spiderwick Estate and promptly stumble upon a field guide to Faeries.

Using childish intuition, the trio soon discover the estate is rife with the little magical beasts, both nice and evil " plus all manner of other creatures.

The books are written by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black, and are presented in hardback old-looking volumes, with pen and ink drawings throughout. It's all a bit Lemony Snicket.

Stormfront Studios will be developing the game - the same team responsible for abysmal title Eragon last year. But then the film was rubbish, too.

"The Spiderwick Chronicles videogame will authentically recreate the world of Jared, Simon and Mallory Grace, putting gamers in their shoes as they discover a hidden world of fantastical creatures - sprites, ogres, goblins, brownies and more," said Al Simone, big boss at Sierra Entertainment.

"Fans of the Spiderwick books now not only have the movie to look forward to, but will be able to live in their favourite fantasy world in this adventure filled game."
