Sony opens PS3 Alternate Reality Game

Hopes freebie Xi will invigorate Home.

Sony has released "the world's first console-based Alternate Reality Game" called Xi for PlayStation Home.

Log on and look for the graffiti on the wall, instructs the US PlayStation blog. From there the breadcrumb trail begins.

Xi spreads through Home and beyond, and involves deciphering cryptic media to locate 24 mysterious missing fragments. Explanations are scarce. Sony must enjoy Lost.

"This is just the beginning," adds Home community manager CydoniaX on the blog.

"Seriously, if you haven't checked out Home in a while, we are now busting out new content regularly. Xi is just a part of this, though an extremely cool part of it. Check it out!"

Can't: washing hair.
