Pokémon Go Ultra League Remix - Banned list and alternative recommendation explored

The list of banned Pokémon in the Ultra Remix League - and some suggestions on how to build your team.

The Ultra League Remix is an altered version of the Ultra League in Pokémon Go.

The Ultra League Remix keeps the 2500 CP cap, but adds a list of banned Pokémon which you can't use in your team.

This banned list consists of the most popular Pokémon used in the Ultra League by players ranked Ace or up and, due to this, you'll have to explore your Pokémon collection for new contenders.

Pokémon Go Ultra League Remix banned Pokémon list

The Ultra League Remix is differentiated from the normal Ultra League in Pokémon Go by a list of banned Pokémon, which was devised from the Pokémon most used by Ace rank and up players in the past Ultra Leagues.

Here is the list of banned Pokémon for the Ultra League Remix:

Swampert is a popular choice in the Ultra League.
  1. Venusaur
  2. Charizard
  3. Clefable
  4. Poliwrath
  5. Alolan Muk
  6. Gyarados
  7. Lapras
  8. Articuno
  9. Umbreon
  10. Scizor
  11. Swampert
  12. Registeel
  13. Empoleon
  14. Togekiss
  15. Altered Forme Giratina
  16. Cresselia
  17. Escavalier
  18. Talonflame
  19. Melmetal
  20. Obstagoon

If you're familiar with the Ultra League, you will most likely recognise a number of these Pokémon and might even have some on your team. With popular choices like Alolan Muk, Swampert and Altered Forme Giratina being removed from play, taking part in the Ultra League Remix involves experimenting with different lines up and using Pokémon you might not have considered before.

Remember - all of your choices need to be under 2500 CP just like in the regular Ultra League.

The World of Wonders season has come to Pokémon Go, giving you the chance to catch Poipole. The World of Wonders: Taken Over event is currently running, bringing the It's a Rocket World special research quest with it. Don't forget to try out Routes, Gift Exchange and Party Play while you're hunting down rare Pokémon, fighting in the Go Battle League or competing in PokéStop Showcases.

What are some alternative recommendations for the Ultra League Remix?

With the above list removing many Ultra League favourites, you'll have to explore your Pokémon collection to uncover creatures which will perform well and fit the 2500 CP cap.

Like with every Go Battle League, these recommendations aren't based simply on power, because they have to be reactive to the meta, which is often formed around certain types that perform well against other Pokémon.

At the time of writing - the start of the Ultra League Remix - this meta is yet to truly take shape. Thankfully, all Go Battle Leagues, regardless of the CP limit, share some similarities in what works and what doesn't, allowing us to get a good idea of what you can use.

Here are some of our Ultra League Remix recommendations:

Surprisingly Snorlax is still an option. Despite being a similar choice in the Ultra League, Snorlax has somehow managed to avoid the Remix ban hammer. With a moveset consisting of Lick (Fast move) and both Body Slam and Superpower (Charged move), Snorlax can take on psychic-types and Pokémon like Galarian Stunfisk. Even without these moves, Snorlax will still provide excellent defence which may stop your opponent in their tracks.

Consider having a fighting-type Pokémon in your team. Despite being a popular choice for the Ultra League, Machamp has also made it into Remix. This means you can easily make it a staple of your team - be it as a heavy hitter or to force your opponents to use their shield.

You should also consider trying out Sirfetch'd or Lucario, as they're good counters for Snorlax.

Explore your legendary collection. Since the ban list only contains four legendries, the majority of these Pokémon are still in play, including Origin Forme Giratina. Good choices to consider are Lugia, Deoxys in its defence forme and Latios.

If you're planning on having Mewtwo in your team, then we highly recommend ensuring it knows the charged move, Psystrike. This is a legacy move, so, sadly, you might have missed the opportunity to catch a Mewtwo with this charged move. If, however, you do have a Mewtwo with this move, you'll find that it's power and short charge time will defeat many foes.

Lugia, Defence Forme Deoxys and Latios are good legendary choices.

Experiment with your Community Day Pokémon. These Pokémon tend to be stronger fighters than most thanks to the exclusive Community Day. Starter Pokémon are always a good choice and, for this league, you may find a Community Day Machop, which knows Payback, is a good choice.

It's important to remember that it's near impossible to know how a new League will shape out upon its debut and no single team will win every match. Still, we hope that the information has given you some inspiration for your team.
