Odds And Ends: Tuesday News Roundup

(Updated throughout the day.) Midway announces LA Rush, Atari releases Top Spin demo, Need For Speed Undeground 2 demo shipping with Burnout 3 worldwide, and vice versa.

Midway has announced that it's returning to its Rush racing roots with its internally developed forthcoming LA Rush title, due out on PS2 and Xbox next spring - with Rides Magazine tagging along, Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition-style, for the ride. LA Rush will, unsurprisingly, feature a realistically modelled version of Los Angeles (everyone needs one these days, it seems), street racing, cop chases, all sorts of jumps and shortcuts, and around 50 licensed and concept cards. We're told to expect more details on the game in early 2005.

With Atari set to publish it in the ever-doubtful near future, whoever controls such things has released a demo of the PC port of Power & Magic's Top Spin, and after a Herculean effort we've mirrored the vast 230MB-odd demo on Eurofiles here. We've no idea what's in it, but it's probably the most enjoyable arcade-y tennis game since Virtua Tennis, so you might as well give it a punt if you're into all things strawberries. Just make sure you have Windows Media 9 and DirectX 9 already installed.

Electronic Arts is planning to ship a PS2 demo of its upcoming chav-tastic racing title Need For Speed Undeground 2 with the PS2 version of Criterion's Burnout 3: Takedown, which is due out this Friday in Europe. And if Criterion's effort isn't your cup of racing (and why?), you can come to terms with your mistake by playing a demo of it if and when you pick up Need For Speed Underground 2. Handy.
