EA's newest Tolkien effort

Now it has the books too.

Not content with owning the official rights to New Line's films based on J.R.R. Tolkien fantasy series, The Lord of the Rings, Electronic Arts has now bought the rights to the books too.

Previously owned by Vivendi, EA now wields the ability to develop games based on the much-treasured novels of Tolkien's work. Which means on top of the recently announced Battle for Middle-Earth II and Lord of the Rings Tactics, we can expect even more titles from the company, featuring the likes of Bilbo Baggins, the thirteen dwarves and more.

That said, EA has stated that no new console titles will be privileged under the agreement, so just PC owners will reap the benefits for now.
