Shenmue's curse continues

Shenmue Online's future may be even more clouded than previously thought, after it turns out the previous developer of the game, JC Entertainment, actually owns half the intellectual rights.

SEGA and the Korean-based JC Entertainment recently parted ways when development was transferred to another studio, but Japanese games publication, 4Gamer, has revealed that the situation has not been resolved and JCE wishes to retain its shared rights for Shenmue Online.

Although neither studio desires to take direct legal action and an out-of-court settlement is said to be in the offering, 4Gamer reported that the partnership ended quite bitterly, so Shenmue Online remains in perpetual purgatory for the time being. Curs'd, we tells you.
