NCsoft lays off 70 staff

But Tabula Rasa is still on track.

NCsoft has confirmed that 70 staff at its Texas office have been laid off as part of new restructuring plans.

Initial reports suggested that the MMO publisher was being forced to make redundancies due to poor subscription figures for City of Heroes and City of Villains. One article on developer blog F13.net suggested that 90 per cent of tech staff and 75 per cent of QA testers were being laid off.

But while that's not the case, according to NCsoft, the company "has reduced its 300 person workforce in Austin by approximately 70 people.

"This decision has no impact on the schedules of any projects currently in development and service to NCsoft's current games will continue without interruption."

In other words, if you're a CoH or Guild Wars player, you needn't worry about support for the games continuing. And development on Tabula Rasa, the forthcoming sci-fi adventure from MMO legend Richard Garriott, will continue as planned. Which is a relief - since as you'll know if you've seen the trailer, it's looking rather good.
