BattleBorne announces 6GUN

Fight for a SOCOM-backed special force in foreign environme-- blimey, it's a bit of a spec ops love in today, isn't it?

BattleBorne Entertainment has announced its second project, 6GUN, a third-person modern combat tactical-action game for PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC due out next year. You can find PS2 screenshots here.

6GUN may sound a bit like Marshall Bravestar 2005, but actually it's due out in 2006, and actually-actually it's about a highly classified "deniable" Navy SEALs-style military assault team called GUNSLINGERS that gets sent in to solve the US government's problems when diplomacy fails.

You take on the role of team leader in the GUNSLINGER program, which is run by Spec Ops Command (SOCOM), and soon find yourself catapulted into the sleuthy fallout of a terrorist-led nuclear explosion.

Despite having recently failed an operation, somewhat hurting its standing, the GUNSLINGER Assault Team 2 is thrown back into action when an unknown force takes over a Typhoon Class Ballistic Missile Submarine in the Russian port of Primorsk and the SOCOM-backed SEAL team sent in to sort things out winds up contributing to a nuclear explosion.

The player will lead the team hunting for the culprits (the ones who weren't blown up, anyway) across four campaigns and "at least" 12 different levels, engaging in small unit combat, close quarters battle, hostage-rescue, demolitions and sniping, following High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) parachute insertions.

That's about all we know at this point, but BattleBorne's taking the game to GDC 2005 soon to try and attract publisher interest. If successful, we should see more of it later in the year.

Meanwhile, BattleBorne's other title, Combat Elite: World War II Paratroopers, a promising title somewhat scuppered by Acclaim's disintegration last year, is apparently closer to being released after its unavoidable delay.
