EA to sponsor i27 BF2 tourney

Want to win five grand?

EA has stepped up to sponsor the Battlefield 2 tournament at the latest I-series LAN party this April - with a £5,000 prize fund now available for competitors to fight over.

BF2 is one of a number of games featuring in tournament play at i27, which takes place between April 14th and 17th at Newbury Racecourse, along with Counter-Strike (Source and 1.6), Quake 4 and Call of Duty 2.

"It will raise the standard of gaming at i27, not just for the competitors but for spectators as well," says Multiplay director Craig Fletcher, who also reckons the purse will attract interest from major clans across Europe.

The I-series LAN costs £75 to participate and £5 to spectate, with up to 1,000 bring-your-own-computer (BYOC) spots, internet access and a huge network. There's even camping and caravan space, apparently, although we always got by sleeping under our computers. It's the way it was meant to be.

The way it was not meant to be was when I got shot in the backside by an Airsoft submachinegun as a wake up call. Cheers Mat.
