EA gets its SKATEs on

Official: on PS3 and 360.

Electronic Arts has officially unveiled SKATE - its attempt to break Activision's stranglehold on the skateboarding sub-genre.

Due out in 2007 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, SKATE is in development at EA's Black Box studio in Vancouver, and features pro skaters Danny Way and PJ Ladd among others.

EA's promising "innovative controls, authentic cameras and a fully reactive skateboarding city", along with "physics-driven animation".

"Our game offers a skate mecca for both skaters and gamers in search of the definitive authentic skating video game experience," says Scott Blackwood, executive producer.

"We're focused on capturing the actual feeling of skating with the innovative control system, the physics driven animations, the intelligent cameras working together to really deliver the closest thing to being on a board."
