TOCA Race Driver 2 PSP trailer

Making this PSP development lark look simple.

Codemasters has released a short trailer of its forthcoming PlayStation Portable racing title TOCA Race Driver 2, which is due to launch for the PSP in Q2 2005. You can download it from Eurofiles here and it's about 5MB.

As you'll be able to see, the trackside detail is a bit sparse in places, but in our view understandably so when you consider how smooth and well-formed the car models are. There's also evidence that the handling models are as taut and variable as they were in the Xbox and PC versions, with cars visibly rocking as they screech round sharp turns, and in general it seems to move at a decent pace.

On PC and Xbox TOCA Race Driver 2 is one of the best racing games of this generation, combining a vast array of different vehicle types and driving disciplines on one disc and managing - somewhat against the odds, really - to make an enjoyable and consistent challenge out of them with a slightly throwaway story element tacked on too.

The PSP version aims to emulate much of that - including the story - and adds eight-player wireless multiplay to its list of features. Given the pedigree of the series to date, it's understandably one of our most eagerly anticipated PSP conversions. Which, given the quality and diversity of the racing opposition, is some achievement.
