Matrix Enters The Bargain Bins

Atari has announced that critically reviled but multi-million-selling movie tie-in Enter The Matrix has appeared on Xbox Classics, GameCube Player's Choice and PS2 Platinum budget ranges, while the PC version has also enjoyed a dip in price.

What's more, the PS2 and PC versions have both been updated with two new mini-games in order to encourage further sales, and presumably help tie in with the Region 2 DVD release of The Matrix Revolutions, which is scheduled for April 2nd according to current estimates.

Enter The Matrix was developed by MDK/Messiah developer Shiny Entertainment and rode a wave of intense hype right to the top of the charts when its launch last May was carefully choreographed to match The Matrix Reloaded's cinematic premiere.

Critics were generally very harsh on the game, which aimed to deliver a side-story for Matrix completists as well as a taste of what was to come from the new films, but that didn't stop it quickly racing to 2.5 million sales within a month of release, making it the 14th and fastest selling title in the Atari catalogue to cross that threshold.

According to Atari's release this week, ETM has since surpassed five million worldwide sales, which is comfortably in excess of the four million units the publisher ambitiously shipped ahead of the game's release.
