VJ: Battle Carnival news

It's a Viewtiful day.

More details of Viewtiful Joe: Battle Carnival, currently in development for PSP and GameCube, have been revealed by Clover Studio - and word is it's not going to be a typical sequel.

Instead, we can expect a fighting game in the same vein as Super Smash Bros. Melee, complete with a four player 'Party Battle Mode' where VJ characters deck each other using unique moves in a series of stylised environments. Previous VJ games have been story-driven, side-scrolling beat-'em-up affairs.

During these matches you'll be able to pick up special VFX Orbs that allow you to perform powerful VFX moves by pressing L or R. Multiple types of orb are promised, including some never seen before.

As for playable fighters there are plenty to choose from - namely VJ himself, Silvia, Captain Blue, Captain Blue Jr., Blade Master Alastor, Dark Emperor Jet Black and Co-ordinator Sprocket.

Viewtiful Joe: Battle Carnival is out on September 29 in Japan, but as yet there's no word on when the game will hit Europe - we'll keep you posted.
