SEGA doing Alien games

FPS and RPG announced.

SEGA is working on at least two next-generation console games based on the Alien series of films, the publisher announced today.

"Multiple titles" are planned and said to be in pre-production, including a first-person shooter and a role-playing game, one of which is due out in 2009.

That's all they're specifying for now, as you might imagine, but SEGA's US boss Simon Jeffery said it was aiming to deliver "a riveting and suspenseful gameplay experience" to live up to the subject matter.

It's been a while since the last Alien film of course, but 20th Century Fox's merchandising department reckons that's neither here nor there, with executive Elie Dekel adamant that Alien is "one of those special franchises that has continued to thrive in licensing long after it has left theatres".

SEGA's Alien games will hardly be the first of course - with the most famous (or at least the best) of their predecessors probably Rebellion's freaky Aliens versus Predator on the PC, a game known to make grown men yelp with fright.
