EA working on new Rings RPG?

So says dev. EA says nothing.

EA has declined to comment on reports that it's working on a new Lord of the Rings RPG subtitled The White Council.

News of the game spread after EA's Jim Norwood mentioned it in an interview with, of all people, 3D Realms. The Duke Nukem developer website was talking to Norwood about his time at old-days publisher Apogee and asked what he was up to.

"I'm currently on Lord of the Rings: The White Council at EA as a software engineer," he told 3D Realms. "It's a new RPG game. That's all public information, so feel free to look it up on the internet or EA's website."

Which of course somebody then did, only to discover he hadn't quite got it right. Shortly afterward the interview lost the section in question and EA got some phone calls.

Speaking to Eurogamer today, all EA UK could offer was a "no comment" response.

The game, if it does exist, would be EA's second proper role-playing effort after Lord of the Rings: The Third Age, which came out in late 2004, although recent effort Lord of the Rings Tactics on PSP took a similar, albeit turn-based approach.

We'll let you know if we hear anything else about The White Council.
