San Andreas tops one million sales in the UK

Rockstar breaks a handful of other records, too.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has sold more than one million copies in the UK in just nine days, Chart-Track has revealed, having already broken records by clocking up sales of 677,000 in the two days following its release on October 29th.

In fact, not only is it the fastest-selling title ever in the UK, and the quickest to hit one million units, but second-week sales of the game are actually higher than the previous record-holder's first-week sales in the UK. That record-holder being GTA: Vice City, appropriately enough.

The game doubtless still has some way to go, but even now it's already the fourth biggest seller on PlayStation 2 ever tracked in the UK - and two of the three games it lags behind are, you guessed it, Grand Theft Auto titles. The fact that games only started topping one million UK sales in the last few years just makes Rockstar's achievement all the more extraordinary.

Outside the UK, sales are said to be comparably strong across the continent and in the USA where the game was released a few days earlier. With Rockstar having already hit 10 million plus units worldwide with Vice City, we're left wondering just how far this one can possibly go - and we're doubly keen to see what sort of effect this week's release of Halo 2 can have on its position.
