Acclaim titles to go next-gen

Throwback dusts them off.

Toronto-based publisher Throwback Entertainment has picked up the rights to a whole load of franchises from poor old busted up Acclaim.

As you may recall, Acclaim went down the toilet in September 2004, and all its games have since been up for grabs like there's some kind of giant intellectual property rights-themed jumble sale going on.

Now Throwback has picked up a wide range of games, including Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance, Vexx, Legends of Wrestling, Extreme-G Racing, Re-Volt and Summer Heat Volleyball.

And it looks like we'll be seeing at least some of those on next-gen consoles in the future, according to Throwback CEO Thomas Maduri. "Acclaim Entertainment was responsible for the creation of some wonderful original games, and unfortunately couldn’t see them through their lifecycle. We are very pleased to have been afforded the opportunity to take these titles through the next generation, and onwards," he said.

"Many of the titles have all the elements required to establish franchises. With new services broadening the reach of games, Throwback will be well positioned for the expansion of the franchises."

We'll just have to wait and see exactly what Throwback has in store for the games, then...
