Wright talks about Spore date

Behind the scenes on Colbert.

Will Wright reckons Spore is on track for release in the second half of 2007, having recently reached the stage where EA people outside the core development team are able to play it from beginning to end.

That's according to N'Gai Croal's behind-the-scenes report on Wright's Monday visit to Comedy Central's satirical current affairs show The Colbert Report, where he was interviewed.

Spore, he said away from the cameras, is expected to hit proper Alpha next spring ahead of its release in the second half of 2007, and he's very happy with the team he's working with.

As you might imagine for a man characterised by the columnist as "engagingly polymathic", Wright shared more than that - with his observation that World of Warcraft has emerged as "the new golf" particularly amusing. See what we mean over at Newsweek.
