Oxygen's tiring Vietnam title due in September

New fatigue system should add a cerebral edge, and it's all historically researched too. And it's only £19.99.

Oxygen has announced (What an odd phrase... "Wait, this just in from Methane!") more details of Vietnam: The Tet Offensive, the PS2 and PC based first-person shooter it's planning to release in the UK on September 24th for a penny shy of twenty quid.

It's in development at Atomic Planet Entertainment, as you may recall (or may not, it's not mandatory), and what we now know is that it's a separate yarn that takes place during the thirteen days of the bloody Tet Offensive.

You control some form of Special Forces man on a mission to retrieve a CIA agent before the communists can smuggle him over the Cambodian border and into North Vietnam - all the while you're dodging bullets and trying to avoid the attentions of both the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong.

Interestingly, there's also a question of fatigue to worry about. Every action causes fatigue, says Oxygen, and as a result players need to pace themselves. Combat obviously ups the stress level, and physical damage not only adds to fatigue levels but also impairs movement and firing accuracy.

Fortunately, you can call in air strikes and such to lend a hand, and non-fatal wounds can be healed, which is something. Still, it's a demonstration of the level of accuracy that Atomic Planet is shooting for compared to other FPS titles of a similar mould, and indeed that authenticity stretches to the vehicles, weaponry, environments and even missions, which have all been historically researched.

So. Look out for it. Vietnam: The Tet Offensive is due out on September 24th.
