Aeon Flux PS2, Xbox

There's going to be a game of the movie of the televison series, don't you know. Starring Charlize Theron.

Futuristic action adventure Aeon Flux will arrive in cinemas this autumn, and wouldn't you know it but there's a videogame tie-in too.

Old people and weird sci-fi freaks may recall the original Aeon Flux animated TV series, which was broadcast on MTV between 1992-97. It followed the adventures of Aeon Flux, a secret agent with a mysterious background who spent most of her time kicking people's heads in.

Things got extra weird in the second season when Aeon started dying in the last scene of every episode only to reappear in the next as if nothing had happened, an idea later ruthlessly stolen by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

A promised third season never materialised, but the big screen version of Aeon Flux is now in post-production. It's set 400 years in the future on an earth which has been ravaged by disease and generally gone to pot. There is one remaining city-state, Bregna, which is ruled by a load of scientists, oddly.

Aeon, a top operative in the Monican rebellion, is sent on a top secret mission to kill a top government official, during the course of which she uncovers a terrifying top level conspiracy. Possibly something to do with the Ross and Rachelan rebellion but we're not sure. [South Park and Friends references in the space of three paragraphs. Bravo! -Tom] [Talk about sucking up... -Ed]

Anyway, US publisher Majesco has now announced that it's doing a tie-in for Xbox and PS2, according to GameSpot. It's being developed by Terminal Reality of BloodRayne fame, and will be released in conjunction with the movie.

The game will feature the voice and likeness of Charlize Theron, who also plays Aeon in the film. Majesco president Jesse Sutton says he hopes this will "provide consumers with a product that seamlessly fits within the world of Aeon Flux yet offers an interactive component that complements its entertainment counterparts." More when we've worked out what he means.
