Doom RPG trailer released

Available on Eurofiles now.

Jamdat has released a brand new trailer of id's mobile phone-only Doom RPG, showing the game in all its turn-based glory.

Clocking in at just shy of two minutes long, the trailer reveals that the look and feel of the original 1993 shooter has been perfectly preserved for the release of the tactical, turn-based twist on the classic FPS. Go and get it from Eurofiles now, it's just 35MB.

Set over 10 "massive" levels, the premise is - as ever - that you've been sent to a "secretive Martian research facility to solve the mystery of a massive demonic invasion".

Reading between the lines, that sets up "over eight hours" of imp-bashing as all the familiar monsters of old make a welcome comeback. Using what looks like the familiar turn-based RPG combat system, the gameplay should be distinctly different to the twitch-based frag fests we're used to, and we're looking forward to see how it works on the confines of a mobile phone.

Id's John Carmack himself is certainly pleased with the results, and will be telling us all about it soon in a special interview.

“For over 10 years, DOOM has set the bar for action and innovation on nearly every serious gaming platform released," offered Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software. "Now we're putting a little Hell in your pocket with a new incarnation of DOOM designed and built specifically to deliver all of the game's legendary action in an inventive and easy to control turn-based RPG."
