New PSP firmware integrates Google

Due out "soon".

Sony has announced that the PSP's upcoming 4.00 firmware will add a Google search feature to the Network section.

The update "will be released soon", PSN operations director Eric Lempel said in a PlayStation Blog post. There's no sign of it on the official US or Japanese update pages yet.

The Google search is pretty simple, says Lempel: you just go to the Network part of the XMB and select "Internet Search". If you're online, up comes Google.

"And with a search history recall of 20 items, Web searches couldn't be easier," Lempel added.

What's more, firmware 4.00 also allows you to change the speed of video playback when you're watching stuff stored on your Memory Stick PRO Duo. Good news for those of you who like to watch lots of legitimately obtained entertainment products on the go. Assuming you find normal speed restrictive.

We'll let you know when 4.00 pitches up.
