Molyneux knighted in France

Says it's a credit to Lionhead.

Peter Molyneux has been given a French knighthood, with culture minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres describing him as "a veritable visionary".

The ceremony actually took place nearly a month ago on 12th March, although it only received coverage in a few places, but today Molyneux released a statement saying thanks.

"I am extremely proud to have received this honour and would like to thank the French Ministry of Culture for this recognition," he said.

"I would also like to say that I see this as a credit for everyone at Lionhead Studios; all our games are a team effort. I am just the figurehead. It is fantastic to see videogames honoured in this way."

Molyneux has been given the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of Arts and Letters). You may remember that Shigeru Miyamoto, Michel Ancel and Frederick Raynal were among last year's recipients.

Molyneux won't be able to call himself "Sir" (although we might call him that if he buys us a pint), but he sounds pretty pleased, and of course it's not the first time he's been honoured, either, having found his way onto the Queen's New Years Honours list at the start of 2005, when he, along with Argonaut founder Jez San, we made OBEs.
