ModNation Racers beta will be substantial

"Really good chunk of the full game."

United Front has said that the upcoming ModNation Racers online beta test will be "a really good chunk of the full game".

The beta, announced yesterday, will be made available to certain people who buy the LittleBigPlanet Game of the Year Edition, although hopefully there will be other ways to get on it.

"We want to get lots of creations up there so right from day one there's a whole variety of karts, characters and tracks up there," producer Dan Sochan told Eurogamer at gamescom.

"It's also a great way for us to test the whole system and make sure that day one we're ready for a million uploads and so on."

That's big talk but then Sony is targeting the game as part of its "Play, Create, Share" family alongside Media Molecule's critically acclaimed LittleBigPlanet, and ModNation Racers made a winning first impression at E3.

We've been playing around with the level editor and racing today at gamescom, so expect some hands-on thoughts as soon as we get time to write them down for you.
