Marc Ecko to make games

Creates new division for it.

Marc Ecko's an American chap famous for making ideas turn to gold, particularly his urban street-wear collections. You may remember him from Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure, which was released across Europe by Atari last year.

The game recently won "Best Videogame Soundtrack" from the 2006 MTV Awards, and has clearly given fashion-fingers a taste for the industry. So much so that he's decided to set up Mark Ecko Entertainment, a gaming division which will focus on originating, funding and developing innovative products.

"There are so many great ideas out there that either aren't getting the attention they need or are being completely ignored," said Ecko. "We will work with the visionaries of the medium and get these inventive titles in the hands of gamers."

The operation will be run by Ecko Enterprises veteran Mike Lynch, who will be joined by former Rockstar man Marc Fernandez, and Shawn Rosen formerly of Acclaim. These chaps are hard at work trying to find the next big thing, and are already working with a renowned developer, apparently.

"We have begun cultivating new game concepts, funding interesting titles that were already in development, and keeping an eye out for progressive ideas," said Lynch.

"One of our initial projects is with a developer that was responsible for one of the biggest hits of 2006. We'll be announcing details on this game very soon."

So, will we see more urban adventures in a GTA-style? Perhaps a fantasy role-playing adventure? Mini-games for Wii? We just don't know.

However, what we do know is that Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure was an average game with great atmosphere, and not such a bad thing to build on. You can find our full thoughts and musings on the game elsewhere on the site.
