Guitar Hero III 360 demo

On Internet, not Live. Works.

With Guitar Hero III around a month away, clever Internet men have found a way for you to download a demo, burn it to CD and DVD and then play it on your totally unmodified, normal person Xbox 360.

How bizarre! Instructions can be found off in the wilds of the Internet, and once up and running you will find five playable tracks: "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benetar, "Lay Down" by Priestess, "Even Flow" by Pearl Jam, "Rock You Like A Hurricane" by Scorpions and "The Metal" by Tenacious D.

Wondering why the demo isn't simply on Xbox Live Marketplace? We don't know either, but it may have something to do with its recent presence on the Official Xbox Magazine coverdisc. Wondering why (and, for that matter, how) it's on the Internet? So are we. Publisher Activision said it would get back to us.

Not that this sort of thing is without precedent, of course. As those of you with long memories may recall, there was once a demo pod disc hosting Call of Duty 2, Kameo and King Kong demos that turned up on the web and worked if you burned it to CD.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock is due out on Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PC and PS2 next month, with retailers pointing to a 23rd November release. A DS version is also planned, although it will take a bit longer in the dressing room.
