How to start The Spirit of Yarikawa's Vengeance in Ghost of Tsushima

The Spirit of Yarikawa's Vengeance is available after you start Act 2 of Ghost of Tsushima. It's found in the Totoyama region, in the south-east of it.

Specifically you'll find Yamato the musician by the river between the Ruins of Old Yarikawa to the west and Rebel's Last Stand to the east.

The Spirit of Yarikawa's Vengeance: all white smoke locations

Once you've spoken to the musician in Old Yarikawa, it's time to go hunting for some white smoke.

The first smoke plume is inland. Here's what it looks like as you approach.

Here it is up close.

Talk to the nearby people as instructed, then it's time to look for a second one. The easiest thing to do is climb a nearby tower and look for it - you can see it in the background here. It's along the riverline.

Here it is up close, by a bridge to the north.

You'll need to head along the river to another camp and free a prisoner, and then there's one last bit of smoke to go find. Here it is on the map:

Here it is as you approach:

Here's the third white smoke location itself:

Time to search for the spirit itself. There's a nearby building you need to look in - to get inside, go to one end and climb up it to get in through the gap.

Once inside, have a snoop around the things you need to examine, and then guess what - more white smoke! It's to the north.

Here's how it looks as you approach:

Spooky! They're onto you - prepare for a fight and head to this area in Old Yarikawa that's full of fireflies, towards more smoke.

How to win the duel in Ghost of Tsushima's The Spirit of Yarikawa's Vengeance

Alright, if you've done a few of these you'll know what's coming: a duel! And sadly it's no ghost, just a regular old person in a white bedsheet, by the looks of it.

The Spirit of Yarikawa is pretty aggressive, using the move with several quick slashes in a row quite frequently, but the rules of engagement here remain the same as all other duels, as ultimately they are all the same. Here's our standard advice:

  • Stay in stone stance as you're facing a swordsman.
  • Heal when you get the little boost in resolve, during those tense sword-clashing pauses.
  • Keep sidestepping, as it's easy to land hits when you get around the side of your enemy.
  • Attack when your enemy sheathes their sword - it's a free couple of hits, and if you don't they'll launch a very fast unblockable attack.

When you get close to the win, Jin will say something about how he's "learning", and then you'll get a button prompt to use the ability you've just discovered, The Dance of Wrath. Press L1 and R1 when prompted, and she'll go down. Congrats!
