Ignition Entertainment has confirmed that El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron is heading west.

The PS3 and Xbox 360 game has already been a big hit in Japan, and now there are plans to bring it to North America and Europe next year.

El Shaddai is a third-person fantasy actioner inspired by the Old Testament, specifically the Book of Enoch. It's all about battles between heaven and earth, fallen angels and great floods. Look out for red-eyed angel Lucifel, always there to offer a wise word or a quick quip. That sort of thing.

The game was developed by a team whose previous credits include Devil May Cry, Okami and Viewtiful Joe. Ignition says they've been given total artistic freedom, which explains El Shaddai's unique visual style.
