Destiny 2 Salvager's Salvo: How to unlock and earn all three Salvager's Salvo ornaments

How to obtain the pursuit grenade launcher in Season of the Hunt.

Destiny 2's Salvager's Salvo is the pursuit weapon you can unlock in Season of the Hunt.

These challenges require you to play (a lot of) playlist activities, granting you a powerful weapon as a reward - in this case, a grenade launcher for your special slot.

Not only is the weapon itself a welcome addition to your arsenal, it's also subject to several Seasonal Challenges, which require you to unlock the Pyretic ornament, Toxicology ornament and Panacea ornament respectively.

How to unlock the Salvager's Salvo in Destiny 2

Salvager's Salvo is the pursuit weapon for Season of the Hunt. To start the quest which unlocks it, Messy Business, pay Banshee-44 (the Gunsmith) in the Tower.

The Messy Business quest works as follows:

"Earn points by defeating combatants in Crucible, Gambit or strike playlists. Significant bonus progress for Grenade and Grenade Launcher final blows. Also, complete Crucible, Gambit, or strike matches. Bonus progress for Crucible and Gambit wins, or Nightfall strikes."

Unlike pursuit objectives in previous seasons, this allows you to play any playlist activity and still progress the challenge.

There are, of course, some bonuses to be aware of to help you complete the matches step faster - specifically Nightfalls within the Strike playlists, and winning Crucible or Gambit matches. For this, it's up to you which you find easiest or more enjoyable. For example, though Nightfalls take longer to complete, it you prefer to run those, that perhaps that might be best for you.

The other step can also be sped up with grenade launcher kills within these activities. If you can, try and load out both special and power slots with grenade launchers, and equip ammo finder mods to make sure you always have rounds to dispense.

Even if you decide to change where you play and your loadouts to suit the Messy Business challenge, know that it will take some time to complete. It's a pursuit challenge after all, so be patient and chip away at it throughout the season, and you'll get there in time.

How to unlock the Salvager's Salvo Pyretic ornament and complete Kill Them With Style explained

Once you eventually unlock the Salvager's Salvo, you can then customise it with three possible ornaments by visiting the Strike (Zavala), Crucible (Shaxx) and Gambit (Drifter) vendors in the Tower and picking up the respective quests (see the second page of their offerings to find it).

To complete the Seasonal Challenge Kill Them with Style - which tasks you with unlocking the Pyretic ornament - you need to visit Crucible vendor Shaxx.

Shaxx's ornament quest, Crucible Salvager, works as follows:

"Gain Valor ranks and get Grenade Launcher final blows; rapidly defeating opponents grants the most efficient progress."

You need to get a total of 30 Grenade Launcher final blows - stringing opponents together is the fastest way to do this - as well as get six Valor ranks. Valor is the non-competitive ranking system, meaning you can lose matches and not see progress deducted, and six ranks is essentially taking you to the end of the ranks before the reset.

This is ultimately a fairly straightforward challenge, albeit one that's a bit of a grind. If you can wait to play until there is increased Valor weeks, then this will go a lot faster.

With that done, the Pyretic ornament is yours - and the Kill Them With Style challenge is complete.

How to unlock the Salvager's Salvo Toxicology ornament and complete Gambit Salvager's Salvo explained

To complete the Seasonal Challenge Gambit Salvager's Salvo - which tasks you with unlocking the Toxicology ornament - you need to visit Gambit vendor Drifter.

Drifter's ornament quest, Gambit Salvager, works as follows:

"Bank Motes and deal Grenade Launcher final blows; bonus progress for rapidly defeating targets."

In Season of the Chosen, you can take on the Presage quest and find Captain's Logs, obtain the Hammer of Proving and earn Cabal Gold, helping you increase your War Table reputation. There are also the usual new additions to Exotics, a max level cap, as well as the Aspect of Influence quest and new pursuit weapon Salvager's Salvo. If you're still catching up with Beyond Light, make sure you pick up Salvation's Grip, The Lament, Hawkmoon - which can be improved further with the Harbinger quest - and Augment Triumphs. As well as XP farm and Glimmer farm advice, looking to the year ahead, we explain everything we know about Destiny 2 crossplay and transmog.
