Capcom issues Final Fight DRM apology

US PS3 version didn't mention it up front.

Capcom has apologised to North American and Asian gamers for failing to notify them that Final Fight: Double Impact required an always-on internet connection.

"Capcom would like to formally apologise for the issues consumers are having with the PS3 version of Final Fight: Double Impact," the publisher said in a statement (thanks IGN).

"Capcom should have checked to make sure the notification was included when the final game was made available and we sincerely apologise for this oversight.

"The DRM requirements for Final Fight: Double Impact are not unique to this release. This protection mechanism has been implemented in numerous games offered on the PlayStation Store before.

"When it was brought to our attention that the notification was missing, we acted quickly with Sony Computer Entertainment America and a fix is on the Way."

Note that the publisher is apologising for not being upfront about the DRM, rather than apologising for the DRM itself, which is there to try and prevent "the rampant 'PSN Sharing' that has been going on over the last year", which is the way a Capcom admin reportedly described it to an angry customer.

Final Fight: Double Impact, which brings together the original Final Fight and Magic Sword, was released on PSN and Xbox Live Arcade earlier this month.
