The XM4 is the starting assault rifle in Black Ops Cold War, and has made the transition over to Warzone since the early days.
The XM4 continues to be an all-purpose assault rifle, deadly up close and personal and accurate from afar.
In this explainer to the XM4 Warzone, we'll take you through everything you need to know about the assault rifle, including the best XM4 loadout and XM4 class recommendations to capitalize in its versatility.

How to unlock the XM4 in Warzone
Thankfully, the XM4 is unlocked from the very second you boot up Call of Duty: Warzone. There's no grinding required to unlock the XM4, because it's available as the base assault rifle in the crossover between Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.
It's a similar situation in Treyarch's new game. You'll unlock the XM4 as soon as you start playing Black Ops Cold War's multiplayer mode, so it makes sense that you'd also unlock the weapon instantly in Warzone, too.
Best Warzone XM4 loadout and attachments
Just below, you can check out our comprehensive list of the best attachments to equip to the XM4 to get the most out of the weapon, as well as the corresponding levels at which said attachments unlock.
- Muzzle: Agency Suppressor (Unlocks at level 46)
- Laser: Tiger Team Spotlight (Unlocks at level 40)
- Stock: Raider Pad (Unlocks at level 54)
- Ammunition: 45 Rnd (Unlocks at level 31)
- Rear Grip: Airborne Elastic Wrap (Unlocks at level 53)
Firstly, you'll want to equip the Agency Suppressor for the muzzle. This has been a rather famous choice for a while now, and it works great here, improving the vertical recoil control as well as increasing both bullet velocity and damage range - in addition to sound suppression, of course. It comes with an impact to aim down sight speed and the overall aiming stability, but not to a high cost.
For the laser of the XM4, we went for the Tiger Team Spotlight. Instead of opting for an optic, this laser attachment improves your overall movement speed using this weapon, making it easier to take enemies down and complimenting the whole build in the best possible way.
While the Agency Suppressor is a must, compensating its flaws is key. That's what the Raider Pad is there for, improving ADS firing and aim walking movement speed, as well as reducing sprint to fire time. Hip fire accuracy is hit slightly, but aside from that, the enhancements to mobility are more than welcome.
Onto ammunition. We went for the 45 Rnd choice here, as the XM4 absolutely benefits from the extra rounds.
Lastly, the Airborne Elastic Wrap is a great rear grip choice for this build. It improves ADS time, stability and flinch resistance, at the cost of ADS and regular firing movement speed and sprint to fire time. It may sound like a lot, but remember, the stock compensates these perfectly!

Best Warzone XM4 class setup, perks and equipment
As with the list above, you can find a full list of the best equipment items to equip alongside the XM4 in your custom Warzone class.
- Perk 1: Quick Fix (Unlocks at level 42)
- Perk 2: Overkill (Unlocks at level 38)
- Perk 3: Amped (Unlocks at level 1)
- Secondary: Swiss K31 (Unlocks by getting 2 Headshot kills in 15 different completed matches using any sniper rifle)
- Tactical: Heartbeat Sensor (Unlocks at level 30)
- Lethal: Claymore (Unlocks at level 1)
With this XM4 build it won't take you long to start taking down enemies, which is why beginning health regeneration immediately after each battle with Quick Fix makes for a great combo. If level 42 sounds a bit steep, we recommend opting for E.O.D., as it will help to mitigate damage from non-killstreak explosives and fire until you can unlock this perk.
As per usual we recommend opting for Overkill as the second perk. As for our weapon of choice, the Swiss K31 is the perfect pair. This sniper rifle is fast and can deal damage at great distances in just a few seconds.
If a target manages to sneak past your sniper, don't fret, as Amped will increase the speed of the action.
Rounding out the equipment is the Heartbeat Sensor, perfect for pinpointing nearby enemy locations. Lastly, the Claymore is excellent for defending against specific points against aggressive enemy players.
