Call of Duty Warzone loadouts explained: What are loadouts, and how do they work?

Loadouts are something that many veteran Call of Duty players will be used to. In normal multiplayer, they determine your equipment, and you can have multiple custom loadouts to allow you to choose whatever suits the level.

In Warzone though, they're a little different.

With it being a battle royale mode, you don't get to start off with these loadouts though. Instead, you need to hunt around for cash first, once you've got a cool $10,000 on you, head to a Buy Station. After you've purchased the Loadout Drop Marker, you just have to find a quiet place to put it. Once it lands, you'll be able to choose which of your loadouts you want.

If you'd rather not pay for your loadouts, then you're in luck. You can completely avoid paying as long as you're happy to fight on without the luxury they provide thanks to two free loadout drops.

The first of these occurs around 13 seconds before the gas finishes closing in on the first circle. The second occurs around 44 seconds before the 5th circle starts closing in.

You'll see a banner flash across the screen saying that the loadouts are dropping. There are, unfortunately, no set places that these drops, so you'll just have to keep an eye out for them whenever you get the heads up!

All you have to do is make sure that you keep an eye on your map to try and get to one. Just keep in mind that they'll likely attract a bit of attention, so be careful when you're near them.

There are also Fire Sales in Warzone. These were introduced and Season 4, and while they're great for doing things like buying respawns and loading up on other shopping, they don't affect loadouts at all - so if you're saving for a loadout, just go ahead and buy it!

However you source your Warzone loadouts, make sure you set up a custom loadout or two in the menus, otherwise you'll only be able to choose from the default presets.

With that out of the way, here's our range of best loadout recommendations for Call of Duty Warzone...

Call of Duty Warzone best general loadout 1: Grau 5.56 loadout, attachments and perks recommendations

  • Primary Weapon: Grau 5.56
  • Grau 5.56 attachments:
    • Monolithic Suppressor (Unlock at level 56)
    • Tempus 26.4" Archangel (Unlock at level 36)
    • Commando Foregrip (Unlock at level 4)
    • 60 Round Mags (Unlock at level 39)
    • Frangible Disabling (Unlock at level 55)
  • Secondary Weapon: 725
  • 725 attachments:
    • Tempus Smooth Bore (Unlock at level 12)
    • Aim-Op Reflex Sight (Unlock at level 3)
    • Chronen Pro Light (Unlock at level 24)
    • Merc Foregrip (Unlock at level 19)
    • FMJ (Unlock at level 8)
  • Perks: EOD, Overkill, Tracker
  • Lethal: Frag Grenade
  • Tactical: Flash Grenade

While this spot used to belong to the M4A1, things have changed, and the old-timers must make way for the whippersnappers. You will, of course, be using the Grau 5.56 as your primary weapon.

warzone_grau

This gives you an excellent all-rounder weapon as your main, but it's one that performs very well at range with these attachments too. Because of this strength, we've paired it with the 725 to give you something with a bit of punch to hit with if anybody manages to get too close to you.

Throw in the Frag Grenade to help you ignore cover, and the Flash Grenade to help you blind your opponents, and you're well-equipped for nearly every situation.

Call of Duty Warzone best general loadout 2: M4A1 loadout, attachments and perks recommendations

  • Primary Weapon: M4A1
  • M4A1 attachments:
    • Monolithic Suppressor (Unlocks at level 58)
    • Operator Reflex Sight (Unlocks at level 7)
    • Singuard Arms Invader (Unlocks at level 28)
    • Commando Foregrip (Unlocks at level 4)
    • Stippled Grip Tape (Unlocks at level 60)
  • Secondary Weapon: RPG-7
  • Perks: EOD, High Alert, Tracker
  • Lethal: Frag Grenade
  • Tactical: Flash Grenade

Despite no longer being the king of the castle, the M4A1 is still a very good pick, and we'd be remiss to not include it on our list. This particular loadout centres the M4A1 as your primary weapon. It's still good at most ranges and should see you through most combat situations.

warzone_best_loadout_4

The aim of having the RPG-7 as your secondary is to allow you to pull out an emergency kill or two when needed, but it also means that you can discard it at a whim if you want to change up your gameplay style to fit whatever environment you're in.

This is a good loadout for newer players, but it's fun no matter what.

Call of Duty Warzone best sniper loadout: AX-50 loadout, attachments and perks recommendations

  • Primary Weapon: AX-50
  • AX-50 attachments:
    • Monolithic Suppressor (Unlock at level 15)
    • 32.0 Factory Barrel (Unlock at level 31)
    • Thermal Dual Power Scope (Unlock at level 39)
    • Singuard Arms Assassin (Unlock at level 34)
    • Presence of Mind (Unlock at level 19)
  • Secondary Weapon: 725
  • 725 attachments:
    • Tempus Smooth Bore (Unlock at level 12)
    • Aim-Op Reflex Sight (Unlock at level 3)
    • Chronen Pro Light (Unlock at level 24)
    • Merc Foregrip (Unlock at level 19)
    • FMJ (Unlock at level 8)
  • Perks: Double Time, Overkill, Tracker
  • Lethal: Claymore
  • Tactical: Decoy Grenade

If you prefer not to see the whites of your enemy's eyes, then the long-range loadout should be perfect for you. You'll be running around with the AX-50 as your main weapon this time, and while you do have the 725 as back up again, your main aim is to never have to use it.

warzone_best_loadout_6

Your perks allow for better running and crouch walking thanks to Double Time, and you can use the Decoy Grenade if you hear that someone is a little too close for comfort, or just use a Claymore to protect your rear.

Keep in mind that you'll probably need to swap the AX-50 out if you reach the final circle to stand a good chance.

The latest event in the game is the Haunting of Verdansk, which offers a variety of Trick or Treat rewards. The event comes several weeks after the arrival of Season 6 Battle Pass skins and a new subway system. Meanwhile, the latest intel released was Tighten the Noose. • HDR attachments:
    • Monolithic Suppressor (Unlock at level 33)
    • 26.9” HDR Pro (Unlock at level 9)
    • Thermal Dual Power Scope (Unlock at level 37)

    • XRK Speed Grip (Unlock at level 30)
    • Akimbo (Unlock via challenge)
  • Perks: Double Time, Ghost, Tracker
  • Lethal: Claymore

Maybe the AX-50 isn't for you but you still want to fight at range. Well, how about going down the HDR route? With an impressive stopping power, you'll have no issues taking out targets at range with this loadout.

warfare_best_loadout_hdr

Plus, the addition of Ghost means you'll be that little bit harder to spot too, which is good since this build really isn't about mobility.

If somebody does get close, then you can rest assured that Renetti with the 3-round burst fire is astounding, but it's even better when you're holding two at the same time. It's unstable but very powerful in close-quarters.

Call of Duty Warzone best close-range loadout 1: MP5 loadout attachments and perks recommendations

  • Primary Weapon: MP5
  • MP5 attachments:
    • FSS Mini (Unlock at level 43)
    • FSS Close Quarters Stock (Unlock at level 42)

    • Singuard Arms Assassin (Unlock at level 34)
    • Presence of Mind (Unlock at level 19)

  • Lethal: Molotov Cocktail
  • Tactical: Heartbeat Sensor

Call of Duty Warzone best close-range loadout 2: MP7 loadout, attachments and perks recommendations

  • Primary Weapon: MP7
  • MP7 attachments:
    • FSS Recon (Unlock at level 27)
    • 5mW Laser (Unlock at level 23)
    • FSS Close Quarter Stock (Unlock at level 43)
    • Rubberized Grip Tape (Unlock at level 46)
    • Sleight of Hand (Unlock at level 39)
  • Secondary Weapon: RPG-7
  • Perks: Double Time, High Alert, Battle Hardened
  • Lethal: Molotov Cocktail
  • Tactical: Heartbeat Sensor

Another close-range option is this loadout all around then MP7. Keep in mind that the MP7 is a little less versatile than the MP5, so this build is all about fighting when you're so close you'll be worried about the enemy smelling you.

warfare_best_loadout_mp7

The aim is the same as above, but just a little more aggressive. As such, you need to be slightly more aware of what's going on, which is why you've now got High Alert. Rather than using a pistol as your secondary, we've opted to give you an explosive payoff instead, which should help rack up a couple of kills from far away.
