MTV Gaming Awards?

Could be

A report on the Seattle Times website suggests that the games industry could soon boast its own red-carpet awards show. According to sources, The National Network, a unit of the MTV Networks division of Viacom, is planning to develop, produce and air an award show towards the end of 2003.

Apparently the network observed that the games industry now largely shares its own target demographic - people ages 25 to 34 - and decided to take advantage.

Let's just hope developers behave better in public than behind closed doors. We've heard tales of naked programmers and beer-soaked festivities at publishers' internal bashes. Heck, we started some of them.

An office straw poll revealed that we do not see the MTV-backed gaming awards presented by Dominik Diamond.
