ToeJam & Earl: Funk Downloads

Sega’s ‘funkified’ quest to save the universe to feature downloadable content

ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth will join a long line of games raring to download extra content from the Xbox Live service - in T&E's case, extra playable characters to complement the standard choice between ToeJam, Earl and gal-pal Latisha.

T&E is a rather peculiar beast. The premise is simple - the 12 Sacred Albums of Funk have been stolen, and it's up to ToeJam, Earl and Latisha to travel to Earth and return the vanished vinyls to Lamont the Funkopotamous, source of all Funk in the known universe. The quest is set across 30 massive and randomly generated levels, as players learn the mysterious ways of Funk-Fu and make use of gift-wrapped power-ups ranging from Icarus Wings to the Funkmobile.

It's a follow-up to a range of successful 16-bit titles, although early reviews from the US have been less than glowing. The game also recently underwent a name change, switching to "Mission to Earth" after "All Funked Up" was deemed a bit too suggestive.

Industry sources tell us that ToeJam & Earl III: Mission to Earth will appear on November 29th.
