Console Releases

Today really is a day for console and pocket gamers to be out shopping, with plenty of different titles across several formats let loose upon us. The biggest titles are clearly Konami's Dreamcast monster International Track & Field, which has been long in the coming, and of course Virgin's epicurean International Karate on the GameBoy Color, which we took a look at in the early months of this year. They're not alone of course, with the Dreamcast opening the doors up to Golf 2001 from Microsoft, Rush 2049 from Midway and the much delayed conversion of Urban Chaos from Eidos and Mucky Foot. The PSX does quite well also, with Madden NFL 2001 and Strider 2 jumping into the fray. In fact, even N64 owners can go away happy this morning with copies of Hercules and the FIFA-beating International Superstar Soccer 2000. The real fun of course will come next week as we start getting closer to the October 26th release of the PlayStation 2, and N64 and Dreamcast publishers start to pull their punches. Ironically it's a PlayStation title, Tony Hawk's II, that will be catching most of the limelight, but the Dreamcast also plays host to Street Fighter Alpha 3 and the GameBoy gets a (less than timely it must be said) conversion of Wetrix. With Mario Tennis, Zelda : Majora's Mask and other titles in store for the coming weeks, you can tell it's going to be a fruitful season.
