Their Finest Hour?

Rowan's Mark Shaw has spoken to SimHQ about the company's next game, the World War II flight sim / strategy game "Battle of Britain". The game will feature a dynamic campaign, with "the whole battle played out in real-time (don't worry, we have an accelerate feature!) minute by minute, hour by hour, day by day".

Players can simply act as a pilot in one of the squadrons involved, or take on the role of a commander on either side of the battle. "Watching the map, you'll see markers that represent Luftwaffe raids moving towards targets and tokens for RAF squadrons moving to intercept them", Mark explains. "As a RAF commander you must react to the raid plots as they appear on your map and decide which squadrons to bring to standby and which to get into the air. You have to anticipate where your opponent will be concentrating his raids."

"Playing the Commander is like playing God Mode. The Commander can select any squadron on the map and take control of any aircraft. The player will never miss any of the exciting combats - he can set preferences for his favourite type of aircraft, squadron or type of incident and the game will automatically give him the option of flying in any engagement that occurs matching those criteria."
