App Store downloads hit 1 billion

The App Store has only been open since last July but the number of downloads has hit 1 billion.

According to Venturebeat that means on average, 3.5 million apps have been downloaded per day. The average number of applications downloaded by each user is 33.

The name of the billionth customer has not been revealed, but they're in luck - they'll receive a 17" MacBook Pro, a 32GB iPod Touch, a Time Capsule and an iTunes Gift Certificate worth USD 10,000. Just for downloading in the right place at the right time.
