During this season, much like the cherry blossom season in the spring, you'll be able to find maple leaves, one of the many seasonal materials, and find the DIY recipes for the maple leaf set.

Both the DIY recipes and the seasonal material they require can also be found during this time period, so, if you want to complete the maple leaf set, make sure you visit your island during this week.

How to catch a maple leaf in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained

Maple leaves in New Horizons are caught in the same fashion as cherry blossom petals were caught earlier in the year. Though, thankfully, the maple leaves are easier to spot.

As you explore your island during maple leaf season, you'll be able to catch the leaves fall, but, every so often, you'll notice a large, brown, leaf floating through the air - this is a maple leaf.

Once you've found a maple leaf, pull out your net and catch it just like you would a bug.

Be quick though, as maple leaves will only be available for a short amount of time before they disappear. If you don't manage to catch the leaf in time, you'll have to search out a new one.

How to find maple leaf DIY recipes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained

Like all seasonal material DIY recipes, the maple leaf DIY recipes can be found by opening the presents dropped by balloons in New Horizons.

The maple leaf DIY recipes are not, however, confined to a specific balloon colour, which means that you can pop every single balloon that floats across your island with the hope that its present might contain one of the recipes.

You will also receive the Red-leaf pile DIY recipe from Isabelle the first time you play New Horizons during maple leaf season. This DIY recipe will be automatically loaded into your DIY recipe list, so, after you've caught enough maple leaves, you can make as many Red-leaf piles as you like.

This, however, is the only DIY recipe in the maple leaf set that is found this way.

From the off, there's fish and bugs to catch, flowers and fruit to grow with Leif selling seeds, villagers to add or remove and tools such as the new ladder and vaulting pole to collect. Once you have settled in, you'll want to be making as many Bells as possible, start collecting K.K. Slider songs and work on your island star rating, increase your HHA ranking, incorporate Feng Shui into your room design and acquiring kitchen furniture. You can also buy fake art from Redd, use the Dream Suite and island backup.

Tips for finding maple leaf DIY recipe in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Since maple leaf season only lasts a week in New Horizons, you're mostly likely going to want to collect all of the maple leaf DIY recipes very early on, so that you can focus on catching the actual maple leaves you need to craft the items.

For this reason, we've written up a number of tips to help you pop every balloon you see and, hopefully, find all of the maple leaf DIY recipes:

  • Balloons only spawn during minutes ending with a '4' or '9.' This means that, as long as you pop the balloons, that there's a chance of a new balloon spawning every five minutes. It doesn't, however, guarantee that one will.
  • The direction balloons fly in changes depending on whether you're playing during the day or night. Throughout the day, balloons will fly in a westerly direction across your island, but, when 6pm falls, you'll discover that balloons will start flying from the east.
  • The sound of the wind will help you. When a balloon is flying near you in New Horizons, you'll be able to hear a whistling noise. If you hear this sound, make sure you follow it, so that you can find, and destroy, that balloon.

  • Be careful where you pop the balloons! If you pop a balloon over water, unwalkable rocks or flowers, then the present attached to it will disappear, taking the reward inside with it.
  • Put the camera into rolling mode. When the camera is set to rolling mode, you'll be able to see further and get a better view of the sky at the same time, making it easier to spot any incoming balloons.
  • Craft or buy multiple slingshots. You're going to destroy a lot of balloons in your quest to find every single maple leaf DIY recipe, so it's a good idea to bring a couple of slingshots with you to ensure that you don't risk missing a balloon.
