Halloween is arriving on your island in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
You can partake in a variety of activities throughout October, from growing pumpkins to buying a Halloween costume. When Halloween finally arrives, you'll be able to meet the pumpkin headed Jack and give your villagers candy.

Everything we know about the Halloween event and rewards in Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Throughout the month of October in New Horizons you'll be able to partake in a variety of Halloween themed activities, with the main event occurring on Saturday 31st October itself. It's important to note that while the Halloween update is downable from Wednesday 30th September, the activities, such as pumpkin growing, start on Thursday 1st October.
On Halloween Jack, the czar of Halloween, will visit your island and you'll need to give out candy to your villagers, unless you want them to trick you. This candy will be sold throughout October at Nook's Cranny for 120 Bells a piece.
Check out our page on spooky furniture for a full list of what's available, but, to give you a hint, it includes pumpkin lanterns, a spooky scarecrow, stacks of pumpkins, a new type of fencing and a Halloween themed archway.
Thanks to the Able Sisters, you'll also be able to dress the part, because they'll be selling a variety of Halloween themed clothing.
Finally, a new Haunt reaction is on it's way too, so you can truly embody the spirit of Halloween.
Halloween costumes in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained
Throughout October in New Horizons you may find the Able Sisters and, island visitor, Kicks, selling a number of Halloween costume pieces.
Below you can find every new costume item that has been added for Halloween:
- Animal nose
- Flashy animal costume
- Flashy point-ear animal hat
- Impish horns
- Impish wings
- Knee high socks
- Mage's boots
- Mage's dress
- Mage's striped hat
- Magic academy hood
- Magic academy robe
Certain items, like the Impish Wings, can only be purchased from Kicks, so make sure you visit his stall whenever he's in town.
It's important that you start planning your Halloween costume now, because, when the event occurs on 31st October, you're going to need it!
Halloween dates in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained
Halloween and its associated events only occur throughout October each year in New Horizons. The event will start on Thursday 1st October and though we don't know when the event will end we can assume that it will be Saturday 31st October.
The main Halloween event will, of course, occur on Saturday 31st October and will run from 5pm to midnight your local time, which means you have a whole month to make your island as spooky as possible.
It's important to note that while the update for Halloween is downloadable from Wednesday 30th September, the activities included only become available from Thursday 1st October onwards.

How to access Halloween in Animal Crossing: New Horizons explained
If you want to take part in the Halloween event in New Horizons, then you need to make sure that you've downloaded the free autumn update patch which will be available from Wednesday 30th September onwards, though the activities included become available from Thursday 1st October.
To do this make sure your Nintendo Switch is connected to the Internet and then try to start playing New Horizons. If there's a patch available, you'll be prompted to do so.
Now simply follow the instructions on your Nintendo Switch and wait for the download to be complete.
With that done you can enjoy the Halloween events as they gradually occur throughout October.
